Bloom ‘Box’ Energy Server hands-on (literally) with video!

So here it is, the now-famous () — all five of ‘em — working their magic at eBay’s north campus. Not much to look at, but we’re happy to say it retains a low temperature — the only heat we really found was due to direct exposure to the light — and remains quiet while running. There are vents just underneath the sides where cool air was being pumped out. Of course, its raison d’etre is its ability to more efficiently deliver power, which is not something we can really test ourselves. Bloom Energy showcased a number of customers today –
FedEx, Walmart, Staples, Google, Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Cox, and of course, eBay — and if the numbers meet their mark, you can color us mighty impressed. You know the drill: gallery below, quick video after the break!

Unite Digital Life with HP MediaSmart Home Server

Since most of us have our data scattered across multiple locations, wouldn’t it be nice to have a centralized place for all our files? At , showed off the that does just that.
As Steve Murtha tells , the server is based on the Microsoft Home Server OS and is about value propositions. The first value point that the server provides is protection. If a hard drive fails, someone could lose several years’ worth of pictures, video, and more.
The HP MediaSmart Home Server has a backup of up to 10 PCs or laptops in a household. In addition, it provides backup in the cloud with its third party ISPs through the open API.
The second value proposition is sharing. The server can stream media from the home server to networked computers. It also streams content to TVs, Xbox 360s, and mobile devices.
Thirdly, the server provides remote access. A user can access their home server from anywhere in the world via a URL, which allows for easy sharing of data.
The HP MediaSmart Home Server is available at prices starting at $299.
