Tracking Offline Conversions and Why It Matters
Many people go to websites everyday and fill out forms, but what happens after they fill out the form? At the , spoke with , the Global Head of Search at , about how websites can make sure they are tracking these potential leads.
First of all, you need to know how people get to your form. According to Vaccarello, Salesforce and others offer solutions that allow this information to be passed through a hidden field. It is an automated solution that not only sorts through the data, but also passes it through an application that builds dashboards, which reveals even more data.
With this information, you can find out important facts such as where your visitors are coming from, who is converting and who is not, where you are spending that is producing profits, and where you are losing money.
After you have gathered this data and analyzed it, you have a stronger knowledge of which leads are worth following up on and how you should approach them.

Does tracking your phone’s location violate your Fourth Amendment rights?

Sure, we like keeping track of , and about every day a new gadget comes along that allows us to better see the virtual breadcrumbs we’ve spread across the land. But, when it comes to letting the government snoop on our carb-loaded morsels, many of us are a little bit leery. Thus there is a growing debate about whether federal use of those breadcrumbs is legitimate, like the FBI identifying Texan bank robbers by co-locating phone calls made at various crime scenes. For its part the current administration indicates that you have no “reasonable expectation of privacy” when it comes to the location of your cellphone. This has members of the ACLU and on-edge, but we’re guessing that this doesn’t concern any of you or Foursquare members in the slightest, yeah?

The nature of news is that it is constantly developing. For example, we first heard about the Haiti earthquake. Then we learned how its rating on the Richter scale. Eventually, we understood the utter devastation it has caused – and continues to cause – in the Caribbean nation.
Many times reporters update individual stories as they learn new information. As such, it presents a challenge for indexing. to index the changes to an existing story. Many of the updates to an article occur within the first day of publishing. Because of this, Google has set the recrawling to occur frequently during that time frame.
In related Google news, Reader is now allowing users to . Simply plug in the URL to the “Add a Subscription” option and Google will create a custom feed for that page.
Incidentally, you can plug in the individual URLs of news articles that you wish to keep track of in Google Reader. You’ll get a notification of changes if they occur.

Does the Sound of Your Voice Impact Conversions?
21/12/2009 - 14:02

I am not asking about high pitched or loud voices, but about the sound of a demo video voiceover.
People often use professional talent to record the script for a demo video. These voiceovers can add credibility and using the right voice can even increase attention and engagement with the demo. However, video optimization firm asked and answered another question for their client Ginger Software.
Does the accent of the voiceover matter? Would a British accent or American accent improve or hinder the conversion rate?
markets a product aimed at improving your written English. It identifies spelling and grammar errors and is particularly useful for students, people with learning difficulties, such as dyslexia, and business people for whom English is a second language.
They A/B tested the voiced over demo video globally, one using an American accent and one using a British accent. The goal was to get more people to download the software.
Overwhelmingly, the British accent improved conversions everywhere (globally around 4% increase) except in the UK and India where an American accent improved conversions.
Does this mean you should swap out the voiceovers on your website for a British accent? That depends, but it sure does mean you should test it.
Apple applies for head tracking patent, Johnny Chung Lee says ‘you’re welcome’

Pablo Picasso is quoted as saying, “good artists copy and great artists steal.” Good thing the quoter was Steve Jobs then, because the latest Apple patent application to go public looks very much like something pieced together . Filed for in June 2008, the new patent is for a system tracking the location of the user’s head and responding to his movements in a fashion that should generate a realistic three-dimensional viewing experience sans . We’ve got video of Johnny’s setup after the break, and as he himself describes it, the idea behind a “desktop VR” is to unbound imagery from the screen surface and to make your monitor or TV act like a window unto whatever is being displayed. That means Apple will need a new branding scheme should this application turn into a real product — iWindow just might be the least likely product name in the history of consumer electronics.
