New helicopter blades not only look cool but are way more quiet

From now on, you won’t even hear the black helicopters coming. Just a breath of wind rustling your blinds, and then — bag on the head! At least, that’ll be the case if the NSA gets hold of some of these Blue Edge rotor blades from Eurocopter. They’re not only shaped like a sword you might find in Final Fantasy XIII, but they have little mechanized flaps that are automatically adjusted in order to reduce the wup-wup-wup noise that results from the blade cutting through turbulent air.
See? Hear, rather?
If you’re interested in a more technical perspective,. There’s still a long way to go before these things are actually quiet enough to sneak up on you, but I’ll tell you what, I guarantee nature photographers are going to enjoy them. Losing a few decibels means you can hover a couple hundred feet closer to your subject critter.

Cyclops watch hard to read, looks cool
Mr. Jones watches are unique in many ways; they are produced by a small design studio, there are generally limited quantities available, but they are pretty much inevitably cool. Normally, they are also easy to read, but that doesn’t seem to be the case with the Cyclops Special Edition.
Wi-Fi school bus keeps kids quiet
A school district in Arizona has outfitted one of its school buses with a $200 mobile 3G Wi-Fi router and $60-per-month access. And guess what? Instead of punching each other and yelling all the way to school, the kids quietly tap, tap, tap away on their laptops.

Are you a huge nerd? No? Sorry, I guess that solar backpack you’re wearing kind of threw me off. Looks like Playskool meets Transmetropolitan. Not exactly a babe magnet. I’m going to let you in on a secret, big guy: check out these Soular Power bags from Neon Green. If you absolutely must wear a solar panel backpack, it might as well be the coolest one out there, right?
That’s a bit like being the thinnest kid at fat camp, but… what? No, I’m not implying anything. Yeah, well, I’ll keep my good advice to myself from now on! Nyah! Get outta here!
HTC Legend spotted just hanging out, playing it cool

digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/gadgets/Engadget_HTC_Legend_spotted_just_hanging_out_playing_it_cool’; Look familiar? Yep, this is precisely what we expected HTC’s rumored to look like based on the . We don’t have any information here other than the pictures themselves, but from what we can gather, it seems to carry over Sense as we know it today without a trace of that we’ve caught in recent months (not unlike its cousin). Maybe more importantly, the Legend looks like it might be kicking off a new styling direction for the company with a big, bold, chromed company logo around back and an aluminum shell that we suspect feels awesome in the hand — particularly if it’s pre-production aluminum. More on this one as we get it; in the meantime, check out a shot of the back after the break.

Japan gets a cool pilot’s G-Shock watch while we get a green one
We never get the good stuff! just released this beautiful GW-3000 pilot in orange, blue, and white (I totally love that blue. It’s my favorite lume/color combo). It is waterproof and runs sets itself via radio. It is also a Tough Solar model and can survive masssive impacts.
It can display 29 world time cities and you can swap the home city with an away city. It also has a stopwatch and a calendar as well as a “Furuotokarenda” which is something Google seems to have translated wrong.

Hermit nap station provides peace and quiet for bloggers on the move (video)

As many a nomadic modern knows all too well, while you can get Internet access, juice for your laptop, and phone service on-the-go, privacy is at a premium. Thankfully, an Australian Design Science student named Kerry Jia Yi Lin has developed a little something called Hermit — an “experimental interactive shell” that uses RFID tags to know when you’ve crossed your arms and set your head down for a nap. Once you’ve assumed the position, the felt shell closes above you, providing “a personal refuge in a communal environment.” Sounds nice and peaceful, no? If you’d like to see it in action, we’ve got a video for you after the break. If you prefer a low-tech version, we suppose you could just throw a coat over your head.
