We may live in an age of uncertainty, but if there’s one thing you can rely on, it’s how an unskilled individual will draw a helicopter in a game of Pictionary. My own games with friends have produced such interesting results that I keep all the drawings. There’s a discussion to be had here about [...]
Sharing best practices for classifieds
My presentation went very well and people were interested in openstandards and opensource. At the moment we are in the sharing best practices. Everybody brings and discusses his business numbers. It’s a very participated session with a lot of ideas going around. Felix just told me he took a small video of the presentation. Let’s [...]
Two things: the iPad is inching closer to being hacked, and people are starting to see why hacking it is a good idea

Every day, we’re getting closer to a truly hacked ., but there are many who would say that Apple has our best interests in mind by limiting the iPad to what they think it should do. Well. Lately we’ve learned about apps being rejected for having “pad” in the name, apps being rejected because they weren’t written in the right coding environment (regardless of compatibility), a dashboard app that was rejected because it “contradicts the iPad user experience.”
It’s going to become increasingly clear over the next few weeks and months just how carefully delineated Apple means the iPad experience to be. So the question is, are you just going to take it?

Here’s an interesting DIY project: Santosh apparently felt that the current generation of electric pocket bikes were just a little too large, so he built his own version. While Santosh’s bike is quite small, it is capable of running at almost 10mph.

This one slipped the net during the excitement that was this year, but it’s such a promising development that we have to give it its due attention. ARM and have announced plans to start building new systems-on-chip using the latter’s production process, with the resultant chips offering up to 40 percent greater computational power, 30 percent greater power efficiency, and a terrific 100 percent improvement in battery longevity relative to their current-gen siblings. Mass production of these -based units is expected in the second half of 2010, which means they should be among the very first chips off Globalfoundries’ 28nm assembly line. The good news, though, is that the technology is described as “ready for high-volume implementation,” so there should be no shortages when things finally get rolling. Let the wild-eyed anticipation begin.

Skullcandy headphones sound good, that’s pretty much a given. And while the styling is cool and everything, they seem a bit.. generic. Don’t worry though, you can get your awesome cans and be individual too. One crafty DIY person is selling customized Skullcandy SK-Pro headphones – but you better hurry, she/he is only making three pairs.

I don’t really get a rise out of College Humor stuff but this one was too good to ignore. I especially like the old man yelling “Racism!” near the middle.

The making of a great commercial

I didn’t watch the Superbowl, so I didn’t see any of the commercials. Had I watched, I would have seen — and thoroughly enjoyed — this Old Spice body wash commercial. Leo Laporte saw it, though, and was so utterly blown away by it that he got the creative team who created it on for an interview. The interview is illuminating in several aspects, but the whole point of the discussion was to find out whether the commercial was composited using digital tricks, or if it was all done in real time. It’s the difference between Star Wars Episode One’s digital trickery and the Lord of the Ring’s forced perspective visual trickery.
